ZantiGM DRAFTING FOR THEGiants
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Giants
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Giants did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Giants were there to profit. Riley Leonard, the No. 105 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 134th overall pick. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
The Dellinger pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The safety spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Good work on the whole, with safety the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In slot 3 they get a three-down runner. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick34
Rnd2
T.J. Sanders
They went early on T.J. Sanders in the Round 2 slot, and the value did not follow. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick65
Rnd3
Harold Fannin Jr.
A tidy bit of business in slot 65, where Harold Fannin Jr. graded well above the range. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick104
Rnd4
Barrett Carter
Barrett Carter at the 104th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick134
Rnd4
Riley Leonard
Riley Leonard in No. 134 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick155
Rnd5
Logan Brown
Fair-plus on Logan Brown, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick221
Rnd7
Mac McWilliams
Mac McWilliams at pick 221 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick248
Rnd7
Garrett Dellinger
Garrett Dellinger in Round 7, Pick 30 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
