FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Bills a B. There is reaching, and then there is Kingsley Eguakun at Round 7, Pick 26. The Bills jumped the board by 36 and dared it to prove them wrong. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
With quarterback and tight end unsolved, spending premium capital on OLB-EDGE is the choice that costs them. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Darius Robinson
They went early on Darius Robinson in the 28th overall pick, and the value did not follow. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick65
Rnd3
Xavier Legette
Xavier Legette at Round 3, Pick 1 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick99
Rnd3
Leonard Taylor III
Leonard Taylor III at pick 99 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick102
Rnd4
Javon Solomon
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback and tight end to take Javon Solomon, an OLB-EDGE that was not the priority.
Pick129
Rnd4
Jaylin Simpson
No edge and no loss on Jaylin Simpson in slot 129; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick159
Rnd5
Malik Mustapha
A reasonable price with a little left over, Malik Mustapha in the 159th pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick162
Rnd5
Luke McCaffrey
A straight-up fair deal on Luke McCaffrey at No. 162, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick198
Rnd6
Tanor Bortolini
They reached into another round for Tanor Bortolini, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick202
Rnd6
JD Bertrand
They paid up for JD Bertrand at pick 202 when waiting would have done the job. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick206
Rnd6
Frank Gore Jr.
They talked themselves into Frank Gore Jr. at the 206th overall pick, and the board did not agree. It fills a real need, too.
Pick246
Rnd7
Kingsley Eguakun
This one needs a full-page explanation: Kingsley Eguakun in the 246th pick, miles early. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
