The Bills let Slaughter fall into their laps, and walked away with a B.

Somebody in Round 2, Pick 32 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Bills sat still while Jake Slaughter, the No. 22 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.

If Hall pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They will regret leaving safety for another day if the season turns on it.

They left with linebacker solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick32 Rnd1 Tyreak Sapp
In pick No. 32 they get a bendy edge with upside at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick64 Rnd2 Jake Slaughter
You do not let an offensive lineman like Jake Slaughter reach pick 64 and blink. They did not. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick96 Rnd3 Whit Weeks
Somehow Whit Weeks was still sitting there in No. 96, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick132 Rnd4 Deion Burks
Deion Burks in Round 4, Pick 30 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick171 Rnd5 Xavier Scott
A reasonable price with a little left over, Xavier Scott in the 171st pick. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick217 Rnd7 A'Marion Peterson
A'Marion Peterson in the 217th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It fills a real need, too.
Pick222 Rnd7 Hykeem Williams
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Hykeem Williams in slot 222. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick245 Rnd7 Jordan Hall
Jordan Hall at the Round 7 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
