hf15/2 DRAFTING FOR THEPackers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
B-
ValueC+
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Packers won the night they stopped Milton III from sliding. Grade: B-. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Packers were there to profit. Joe Milton III, the No. 173 name on the board, should have been long gone before Round 6, Pick 28.
Reaching for Washington left real value on the table behind him. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Kamari Lassiter
In the 25th overall pick they get an island corner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick41
Rnd2
Brandon Dorlus
They reached a country mile for Brandon Dorlus at the 41st pick, and the board is aghast. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick57
Rnd2
D.J. James
A reach on D.J. James in pick No. 57; the board had better options right there. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick88
Rnd3
Mike Sainristil
Mike Sainristil at pick 88 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick92
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
They took Zak Zinter at par in slot 92, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick125
Rnd4
MarShawn Lloyd
Good price on MarShawn Lloyd in No. 125, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick135
Rnd4
Malik Washington
Malik Washington at Round 4, Pick 35 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick203
Rnd6
Joe Milton III
A top-tier quarterback at a bargain, Joe Milton III in the Round 6 slot, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick217
Rnd6
Jared Wiley
No edge and no loss on Jared Wiley in Round 6, Pick 42; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick219
Rnd6
Christian Jones
A clean, defensible pick in No. 219 with a little surplus value in Christian Jones. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick246
Rnd7
Trevor Keegan
They jumped the gun on Trevor Keegan, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
