Rando DRAFTING FOR THESteelers

Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall
D-
ValueB-
NeedB-
TradesF
FutureB-
The Steelers cashed the board's mistake on King: D-. The Steelers did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Kobe King fell into slot 223. Too much went sideways, and the D- is the honest tally.
The Jackson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. The Fairchild pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Emeka Egbuka
In pick No. 21 they get a true top target. A real need, handled.
Pick37
Rnd2
Donovan Jackson
A wild overpay on Donovan Jackson in the 37th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick52
Rnd2
TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson at the Round 2 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick83
Rnd3
Jihaad Campbell
Jihaad Campbell in slot 83 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick86
Rnd3
Dylan Fairchild
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending Round 3, Pick 22 on Dylan Fairchild with quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots unsolved.
Pick121
Rnd4
Quinshon Judkins
They will replay Quinshon Judkins at pick 121 for years; that is how good the value is. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick161
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
A conviction pick on Dont'e Thornton Jr. at No. 161 that the board grades a round light. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick223
Rnd7
Kobe King
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Kobe King in the 223rd pick, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Pick229
Rnd7
Jordan Hancock
They robbed the room for Jordan Hancock here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick245
Rnd7
Brant Kuithe
Taking Brant Kuithe in pick No. 245 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
