Draft Grade — Rams
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureB-
Quarterback settled, Mendoza in the fold, and a B+ for the Rams.

They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Fernando Mendoza is the Rams' quarterback, full stop. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They will need Benny to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped safety, which is a strange place to end up. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Johnson.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Fernando Mendoza
In pick No. 18 they get a franchise quarterback at fair value.
Pick20 Rnd1 Jeremiyah Love
In the 20th pick they get an every-down engine for the run game, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick49 Rnd2 Trevor Goosby
Trevor Goosby at the Round 2 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick51 Rnd2 Nyck Harbor
Value with a capital V on Nyck Harbor in the 51st overall pick, a genuine coup. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick82 Rnd3 Max Klare
Max Klare slipping to No. 82 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick122 Rnd4 Chris Johnson
Chris Johnson is a better player than Round 4, Pick 22 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick142 Rnd5 Sammy Omosigho
By-the-book stuff, Sammy Omosigho at slot 142 squarely in line with his ranking. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick157 Rnd5 Rayshaun Benny
Rayshaun Benny in pick 157 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick193 Rnd6 Mark Fletcher Jr.
They paid sticker price for Mark Fletcher Jr. in pick No. 193, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick200 Rnd6 Jaren Kanak
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jaren Kanak. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick222 Rnd7 Amare Campbell
A reasonable price with a little left over, Amare Campbell in the Round 7 slot. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick252 Rnd7 Elliot Washington II
Elliot Washington II in pick 252 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
