FutureB+
The Rams won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B+. Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Rams spent the Round 4 slot on Luke Lachey, a name most had 90 spots down the list. No fireworks, but a solid B+.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Carroll pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
The Rams paired the rookies with proven help, Terence Steele leading the way.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick16
Rnd1
Emery Jones Jr.
The board had cheaper options than Emery Jones Jr. at No. 16, and it noticed. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick43
Rnd2
Deontae Lawson
Deontae Lawson in pick No. 43 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick47
Rnd2
Xavier Watts
Value with a capital V on Xavier Watts in the 47th pick, a genuine coup. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick69
Rnd3
Jalon Walker
They did well to land Jalon Walker in pick 69, just ahead of his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick100
Rnd3
Riley Leonard
Riley Leonard at Round 3, Pick 36 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick107
Rnd4
Luke Lachey
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Luke Lachey. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick181
Rnd6
Nick Martin
Nick Martin at the Round 6 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick204
Rnd6
Will Sheppard
Will Sheppard at Round 6, Pick 29 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick205
Rnd6
Quinn Carroll
Nice patience on Quinn Carroll, who had no business lasting to slot 205. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
