Draft Grade — Rams
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Rams: B-. There is reaching, and then there is Miyan Williams at the Round 6 slot. The Rams jumped the board by 41 and dared it to prove them wrong. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
For all the activity, safety went untouched, which is hard to explain. Spending an early pick on OLB-EDGE with safety, quarterback and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but safety.
Pick Analysis
Pick19
Rnd1
Quinyon Mitchell
In pick No. 19 they get a potential shutdown corner. Need was not the driver here.
Pick52
Rnd2
Kris Jenkins
They took Kris Jenkins at par in the 52nd pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick83
Rnd3
Brenden Rice
They went early on Brenden Rice in Round 3, Pick 19, and the value did not follow. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick99
Rnd3
Javon Solomon
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Javon Solomon adds an OLB-EDGE and leaves safety, quarterback and other spots untouched.
Pick154
Rnd5
Tommy Eichenberg
Tommy Eichenberg at the 154th overall pick is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick155
Rnd5
Xavier Thomas
Xavier Thomas in No. 155 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick196
Rnd6
Gabe Hall
Gabe Hall at pick 196 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It fills a real need, too.
Pick209
Rnd6
Julian Pearl
A clean, defensible pick in the 209th overall pick with a little surplus value in Julian Pearl. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick213
Rnd6
Miyan Williams
A real head-scratcher, Miyan Williams in slot 213 is miles ahead of his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick217
Rnd6
Keith Randolph Jr.
Keith Randolph Jr. at No. 217 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick254
Rnd7
Bub Means
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Bub Means in the 254th pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
