Draft Grade — Rams
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Rams won the night they stopped Hardy from sliding. Grade: B-. Somebody in the 217th pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Rams sat still while Daequan Hardy, the No. 195 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Tupuola-Fetui pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick Analysis
Pick19
Rnd1
Byron Murphy II
In the 19th overall pick they get a wrecking ball inside. A real need, handled.
Pick52
Rnd2
Javon Bullard
They went early on Javon Bullard in slot 52, and the value did not follow. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick83
Rnd3
Kiran Amegadjie
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Kiran Amegadjie in the Round 3 slot, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick100
Rnd3
Caelen Carson
Caelen Carson at Round 3, Pick 37 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick153
Rnd5
Luke McCaffrey
They jumped the gun on Luke McCaffrey, taking him earlier than his grade liked. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick154
Rnd5
Marist Liufau
Marist Liufau in the 154th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick177
Rnd6
Zion Tupuola-Fetui
A conviction pick on Zion Tupuola-Fetui at No. 177 that the board grades a round light. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick191
Rnd6
Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III at pick No. 191 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick212
Rnd6
Daijun Edwards
Nothing to complain about; Daijun Edwards went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick217
Rnd6
Daequan Hardy
Somehow Daequan Hardy was still sitting there in slot 217, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick218
Rnd6
JD Bertrand
A tidy little value on JD Bertrand in Round 6, Pick 43, a step better than break-even. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
