More right than wrong for the Rams, and a B- to prove it. The Rams torched the value chart for J.J. Weaver, taking him 51 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
The Latham value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. Safety is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick19
Rnd1
Cooper DeJean
Cooper DeJean at pick 19 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick51
Rnd2
JC Latham
A offensive lineman of that caliber at Round 2, Pick 19 is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick83
Rnd3
Javon Bullard
Javon Bullard at slot 83 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick100
Rnd3
Junior Colson
Junior Colson in the 100th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick153
Rnd5
Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III at the Round 5 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick154
Rnd5
Sincere Haynesworth
They paid sticker price for Sincere Haynesworth in pick No. 154, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick177
Rnd6
J.J. Weaver
They reached a country mile for J.J. Weaver at the 177th pick, and the board is aghast. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick191
Rnd6
Frank Gore Jr.
They will replay Frank Gore Jr. at slot 191 for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick212
Rnd6
Jalen Green
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jalen Green. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick218
Rnd6
Austin Stogner
Austin Stogner in No. 218 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick254
Rnd7
Daequan Hardy
Steal is underselling it; Daequan Hardy at pick 254 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
