Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Rams
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Rams a B-. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Rams did exactly that with Jase McClellan in the Round 6 slot.
A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want. The Jones steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
The Sainristil pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with wide receiver and quarterback still on the board. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick19
Rnd1
Terrion Arnold
In Round 1, Pick 19 they get a ballhawk on the outside. Need was not the driver here.
Pick51
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
They paid sticker price for T'Vondre Sweat in pick 51, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick83
Rnd3
Mike Sainristil
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Mike Sainristil adds a cornerback and leaves wide receiver and quarterback untouched.
Pick100
Rnd3
Tykee Smith
A clean, defensible pick in slot 100 with a little surplus value in Tykee Smith. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick153
Rnd5
Edefuan Ulofoshio
Edefuan Ulofoshio in the 153rd overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick154
Rnd5
Zion Tupuola-Fetui
They jumped the gun on Zion Tupuola-Fetui, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick177
Rnd6
Jase McClellan
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jase McClellan. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick191
Rnd6
Austin Stogner
A premium they did not need to pay, Austin Stogner a notch or two before his time. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick212
Rnd6
Christian Jones
Christian Jones is a better player than Round 6, Pick 37 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick217
Rnd6
Omar Speights
Value with a capital V on Omar Speights in slot 217, a genuine coup. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick218
Rnd6
Darius Muasau
No edge and no loss on Darius Muasau in pick No. 218; it is a wash and a sensible one. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
