Larceny in pick 214 lands the Rams a B-, Magee and all. You build a draft on nights like this. Jordan Magee had no business being available in the 214th overall pick, and the Rams did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Every board in the league had Slovis lower, and that gap is the story. They left with safety solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick19
Rnd1
Nate Wiggins
In the 19th overall pick they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. More want than need.
Pick51
Rnd2
Patrick Paul
They paid sticker price for Patrick Paul in slot 51, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick83
Rnd3
Braden Fiske
No edge and no loss on Braden Fiske in the 83rd pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick156
Rnd5
Jaylin Simpson
Jaylin Simpson slid further than he should have, and pick 156 is lovely value for the cornerback. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick157
Rnd5
Cody Schrader
No drama and no debate, Cody Schrader went about where he belonged in No. 157. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick191
Rnd6
Aki Ogunbiyi
Nothing to complain about; Aki Ogunbiyi went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick214
Rnd6
Jordan Magee
Jordan Magee in pick No. 214 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick216
Rnd6
Kenny Logan Jr.
A quiet steal in the Round 6 slot: Kenny Logan Jr. for less than the market said. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick218
Rnd6
Omar Speights
Omar Speights slipping to the 218th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick221
Rnd7
Kedon Slovis
Kedon Slovis at pick 221 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
