Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Jets
Overall
B-
ValueC
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Jets a B-. For all the names on the card, the loudest question went unanswered. The Jets walked out of the weekend still thin at quarterback, a hole that has a way of deciding seasons.
Reaching for Echoles left real value on the table behind him. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Cam Coleman
In the 2nd pick they get a weapon on the perimeter, though they paid up to get him. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick16
Rnd1
Will Echoles
In slot 16 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher, a steep price for the projection.
Pick33
Rnd2
Faletau Satuala
Faletau Satuala in the 33rd overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick44
Rnd2
Bray Hubbard
Bray Hubbard in No. 44 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick103
Rnd4
Jacarrius Peak
No drama and no debate, Jacarrius Peak went about where he belonged in Round 4, Pick 3. It fills a real need, too.
Pick175
Rnd5
Tree Babalade
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tree Babalade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick178
Rnd5
Antonio Kite
Antonio Kite at pick 178 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick192
Rnd6
Cayden Lee
They paid up for Cayden Lee at the Round 6 slot when waiting would have done the job. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick206
Rnd6
Lawson Luckie
Lawson Luckie at pick 206 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick210
Rnd6
A'Marion Peterson
They took A'Marion Peterson at par in the Round 6 slot, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
Pick218
Rnd7
Alex Birchmeier
By-the-book stuff, Alex Birchmeier at the 218th pick squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick242
Rnd7
Jehiem Oatis
A conviction pick on Jehiem Oatis at Round 7, Pick 26 that the board grades a round light. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
