Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall C
ValueB- NeedB- TradesF FutureB-
The Raiders bled value on every deal, hence the C.

Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Raiders spent No. 219 on Trey Holly, a name the board had a full 36 spots lower.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. The Thieneman pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with tight end and interior defensive lineman still on the board. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

They banked enough surplus on Beck to cover a lot of smaller sins.

Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.

Pick Analysis
Pick13 Rnd1 Caleb Downs
The board had Caleb Downs higher than No. 13, and the safety fell to them anyway. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick29 Rnd1 Sonny Styles
In the 29th overall pick they get a green-dot type in the middle, even if it was a touch early. Need was not the driver here.
Pick36 Rnd2 Dillon Thieneman
A curious use of Round 2, Pick 4. Tight end and interior defensive lineman needed the pick; a safety in Dillon Thieneman did not.
Pick61 Rnd2 Deontae Lawson
They bypassed pressing needs at tight end and interior defensive lineman to take Deontae Lawson, a linebacker that was not the priority.
Pick67 Rnd3 Austin Barber
They liked Austin Barber enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 67. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick93 Rnd3 Carson Beck
A tidy bit of business in the 93rd pick, where Carson Beck graded well above the range. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick102 Rnd4 D'Angelo Ponds
By-the-book stuff, D'Angelo Ponds at slot 102 squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick117 Rnd4 Charles Jagusah
Charles Jagusah in the 117th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick168 Rnd5 Taylen Green
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Taylen Green. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick176 Rnd5 Brenen Thompson
A slide stopped in No. 176, with Brenen Thompson worth more than the price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick181 Rnd6 Raylen Wilson
Raylen Wilson at Round 6, Pick 1 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick184 Rnd6 Eric O'Neill
Eric O'Neill at the 184th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick219 Rnd7 Trey Holly
They talked themselves into Trey Holly at the Round 7 slot, and the board did not agree. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick232 Rnd7 Rueben Owens II
A big swing on Rueben Owens II at pick No. 232, well ahead of any board in the building. The roster fit checks out.
