Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB+ FutureC
The Raiders answered their biggest question with Sanders. Grade: B.

The Raiders did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Karene Reid fell into pick 216.

Shedeur Sanders is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. They will need Sanders to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Shedeur Sanders
In pick No. 1 they get a franchise quarterback. A real need, handled.
Pick34 Rnd2 Omarion Hampton
Nice patience on Omarion Hampton, who had no business lasting to the 34th pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick39 Rnd2 Emeka Egbuka
A quiet steal in No. 39: Emeka Egbuka for less than the market said. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick65 Rnd3 Josaiah Stewart
Josaiah Stewart at the 65th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick103 Rnd4 Deontae Lawson
The board had Deontae Lawson higher than slot 103, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick138 Rnd4 Sebastian Castro
You do not let a safety like Sebastian Castro reach Round 4, Pick 37 and blink. They did not. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick178 Rnd6 Jaeden Roberts
They read the board right and Jaeden Roberts was the payoff at pick No. 178. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick212 Rnd6 Shilo Sanders
Shilo Sanders at the Round 6 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick216 Rnd7 Karene Reid
Karene Reid at pick 216 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick217 Rnd7 Jay Higgins
The board fumbled Jay Higgins all the way to the 217th overall pick, and they scooped it up. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
