Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Mendoza is the plan now, and the Raiders grade out a B-.

Start where it matters. The Raiders took Fernando Mendoza to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. Every board in the league had Boettcher lower, and that gap is the story. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Slaughter.

Job largely done: cornerback settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Fernando Mendoza
In the 1st pick they get a passer to set the clock by. A real need, handled.
Pick36 Rnd2 Emmanuel Pregnon
Emmanuel Pregnon at No. 36 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick67 Rnd3 Jake Slaughter
The board had Jake Slaughter higher than slot 67, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick102 Rnd4 D'Angelo Ponds
D'Angelo Ponds in pick No. 102 is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick117 Rnd4 Blake Miller
They took Blake Miller at par in Round 4, Pick 17, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick134 Rnd4 Bryce Boettcher
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Bryce Boettcher well ahead of where he belonged. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick174 Rnd5 Eric McAlister
No drama and no debate, Eric McAlister went about where he belonged in the 174th overall pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick180 Rnd6 Xavier Nwankpa
Nice patience on Xavier Nwankpa, who had no business lasting to the Round 6 slot. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick183 Rnd6 Josh Moten
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Josh Moten. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick219 Rnd7 Dominic Zvada
They jumped the gun on Dominic Zvada, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
