Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall D-
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the 49ers for Pritchett: D-.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The 49ers did exactly that with Cedric Gray in slot 100. It grades a D-, and the process earned it.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. On value alone, Pritchett makes the weekend a net positive.

They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.

Pick Analysis
Pick13 Rnd1 JC Latham
In the 13th overall pick they get protection for the quarterback. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick31 Rnd1 Tyler Nubin
In the Round 1 slot they get a downhill hitter at safety at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Pick63 Rnd2 Chris Braswell
They did well to land Chris Braswell in slot 63, just ahead of his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick98 Rnd3 Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter at Round 3, Pick 35 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick100 Rnd3 Cedric Gray
This one needs a full-page explanation: Cedric Gray in No. 100, miles early. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick113 Rnd4 Malik Washington
A straight-up fair deal on Malik Washington at pick 113, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick132 Rnd4 Jarrian Jones
A quiet steal in the 132nd pick: Jarrian Jones for less than the market said. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick176 Rnd6 Khristian Boyd
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Khristian Boyd at the 176th overall pick is the proof. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick191 Rnd6 Nehemiah Pritchett
Taking Nehemiah Pritchett in the Round 6 slot is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick209 Rnd6 Michael Barrett
The board fumbled Michael Barrett all the way to slot 209, and they scooped it up. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick214 Rnd6 Gabe Hall
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Gabe Hall. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick215 Rnd6 Isaiah Williams
Fair-plus on Isaiah Williams, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick218 Rnd6 Jawhar Jordan
No drama and no debate, Jawhar Jordan went about where he belonged in No. 218. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick249 Rnd7 Jeremy Flax
Jeremy Flax at the Round 7 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
