Best value of the weekend goes to the Raiders for Green: D. The Raiders lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. The math is unkind, and the D follows.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Raiders indulged a want in Styles while a need in edge rusher, running back and other spots stayed open. Reaching for Chaplin left real value on the table behind him.
That Green pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Jordyn Tyson
In No. 17 they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick26
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In the 26th pick they get a three-down second-level presence at a price that makes it sweeter. More want than need.
Pick38
Rnd2
Kayden McDonald
Kayden McDonald in pick 38 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick48
Rnd2
Sonny Styles
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Sonny Styles at linebacker with edge rusher, running back and other spots open.
Pick67
Rnd3
Xavier Chaplin
A reach for Xavier Chaplin in Round 3, Pick 3; a little patience would have been rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick76
Rnd3
Sam Leavitt
They paid sticker price for Sam Leavitt in pick No. 76, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick153
Rnd5
Drew Allar
Drew Allar in the 153rd overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick173
Rnd5
Aamil Wagner
By-the-book stuff, Aamil Wagner at No. 173 squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick183
Rnd6
Davison Igbinosun
Davison Igbinosun in slot 183 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick184
Rnd6
Aaron Anderson
A tidy bit of business in the 184th pick, where Aaron Anderson graded well above the range. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick220
Rnd7
Taylen Green
The board fumbled Taylen Green all the way to Round 7, Pick 5, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
