Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall
C
ValueC
NeedB
TradesD-
FutureB-
The Raiders finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a C. There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Raiders started one anyway for Jacob Rodriguez, 97 picks ahead of schedule.
They have staked the next five years on Fernando Mendoza, which is the only story that really matters here. That is a quarterback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
If Fernando Mendoza and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
Fernando Mendoza at the Round 1 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick33
Rnd2
Trevor Goosby
Trevor Goosby at the 33rd pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick67
Rnd3
Jacob Rodriguez
Value said wait; Jacob Rodriguez in pick 67 says they were not listening. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick71
Rnd3
Keith Abney II
By-the-book stuff, Keith Abney II at No. 71 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick102
Rnd4
Nyck Harbor
Nice patience on Nyck Harbor, who had no business lasting to slot 102. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick111
Rnd4
Zane Durant
Zane Durant in the 111th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick136
Rnd4
Iapani Laloulu
This one needs a full-page explanation: Iapani Laloulu in No. 136, miles early. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick141
Rnd5
Lander Barton
They reached into another round for Lander Barton, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick173
Rnd5
Duce Robinson
Duce Robinson in the Round 5 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick183
Rnd6
Xavier Nwankpa
Xavier Nwankpa in slot 183 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick187
Rnd6
Bryce Foster
A wild overpay on Bryce Foster in pick 187, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick217
Rnd7
Trinidad Chambliss
They will replay Trinidad Chambliss at the 217th pick for years; that is how good the value is. It fills a real need, too.
