The Raiders let Daniels fall into their laps, and walked away with a A-. The Raiders ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided.
The Raiders indulged a want in Lawson while a need in edge rusher, tight end and other spots stayed open. Every board in the league had Chambliss lower, and that gap is the story. Daniels falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Jordyn Tyson and all.
Pick Analysis
Pick16
Rnd1
Jordyn Tyson
In No. 16 they get a true top target. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick33
Rnd2
CJ Allen
They paid sticker price for CJ Allen in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick36
Rnd2
Colton Hood
Colton Hood at Round 2, Pick 4 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick44
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
Nothing to complain about; Olaivavega Ioane went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick67
Rnd3
Deontae Lawson
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Deontae Lawson at linebacker with edge rusher, tight end and other spots open.
Pick102
Rnd4
Trinidad Chambliss
A big swing on Trinidad Chambliss at slot 102, well ahead of any board in the building. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick117
Rnd4
Jude Bowry
A premium they did not need to pay, Jude Bowry a notch or two before his time. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick135
Rnd4
Blake Miller
Nice patience on Blake Miller, who had no business lasting to the 135th pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick176
Rnd5
Xavier Nwankpa
Xavier Nwankpa at slot 176 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick181
Rnd6
Le'Veon Moss
Le'Veon Moss in Round 6, Pick 1 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick184
Rnd6
Josh Moten
Josh Moten at pick No. 184 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick219
Rnd7
Jalon Daniels
They will replay Jalon Daniels at pick 219 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
