FutureA+
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Raiders to a D+. Somebody took the Raiders to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. It grades a D+, and the process earned it.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Mondon Jr. pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher and tight end. Reaching for Webb left real value on the table behind him.
Getting Grant where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Matthew Golden
In pick No. 25 they get a No. 1 receiver at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick26
Rnd1
Shavon Revel Jr.
In slot 26 they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick37
Rnd2
Kenneth Grant
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Kenneth Grant in the 37th pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick68
Rnd3
Demetrius Knight Jr.
Value with a capital V on Demetrius Knight Jr. in the Round 3 slot, a genuine coup. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick108
Rnd4
Smael Mondon Jr.
A surprising call. With edge rusher and tight end still to address, they spent No. 108 on Smael Mondon Jr., a linebacker they were not short of.
Pick143
Rnd5
Tyler Shough
By-the-book stuff, Tyler Shough at Round 5, Pick 5 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick166
Rnd5
Nick Nash
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Nick Nash at the 166th overall pick is the proof. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick174
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
The board had cheaper options than Dont'e Thornton Jr. at pick 174, and it noticed. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick180
Rnd6
Clay Webb
Clay Webb at slot 180 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick213
Rnd6
Jay Higgins
Nothing to complain about; Jay Higgins went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick215
Rnd6
Caleb Ransaw
Caleb Ransaw in the 215th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick222
Rnd7
Donovan Edwards
They read the board right and Donovan Edwards was the payoff at the Round 7 slot. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
