Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Raiders answered their biggest question with Mendoza. Grade: B-.

The search is over. The Raiders handed the keys to Fernando Mendoza, and the whole operation now runs on his development. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.

That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They will need Barber to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Fernando Mendoza
In slot 1 they get the face of the franchise at fair value.
Pick36 Rnd2 Christen Miller
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Christen Miller. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick67 Rnd3 Austin Barber
Austin Barber at Round 3, Pick 3 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick102 Rnd4 Zakee Wheatley
Zakee Wheatley in pick 102 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick117 Rnd4 Tacario Davis
Tacario Davis in the 117th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick134 Rnd4 Kyle Louis
A reach for Kyle Louis in No. 134; a little patience would have been rewarded. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick174 Rnd5 Lander Barton
A conviction pick on Lander Barton at the 174th pick that the board grades a round light. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick180 Rnd6 Zane Durant
A reasonable price with a little left over, Zane Durant in the Round 6 slot. It fills a real need, too.
Pick183 Rnd6 Ephesians Prysock
Ephesians Prysock in slot 183 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick219 Rnd7 Miles Kitselman
Miles Kitselman in No. 219 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
