FutureA+
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Raiders a B+. Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Raiders spent the 118th pick on Demon Clowney, a name the board had a full 288 spots lower.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. They will answer for taking linebacker early while cornerback, running back and other spots went begging. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In the 18th pick they get a three-down second-level presence. Need was not the driver here.
Pick33
Rnd2
Anthony Hill Jr.
A curious use of Round 2, Pick 1. Cornerback, running back and other spots needed the pick; a linebacker in Anthony Hill Jr. did not.
Pick46
Rnd2
Ja'Kobi Lane
Ja'Kobi Lane at No. 46 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick49
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
They did well to land Olaivavega Ioane in slot 49, just ahead of his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick65
Rnd3
Connor Lew
They read the board right and Connor Lew was the payoff at the 65th overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick80
Rnd3
Trinidad Chambliss
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Trinidad Chambliss. The roster fit checks out.
Pick101
Rnd4
Harold Perkins Jr.
They bypassed pressing needs at cornerback, running back and other spots to take Harold Perkins Jr., a linebacker that was not the priority.
Pick118
Rnd4
Demon Clowney
Demon Clowney at pick No. 118 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick136
Rnd4
CJ Daniels
They talked themselves into CJ Daniels at pick 136, and the board did not agree. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick175
Rnd5
Aamil Wagner
A reach on Aamil Wagner in slot 175; the board had better options right there. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
