Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
Mendoza is the plan now, and the Raiders grade out a B-. The Raiders did not so much draft Max Bredeson as overpay for him, 141 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
Everything downstream of Fernando Mendoza depends on Fernando Mendoza, and the building knows it. The Boerkircher steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
No edge and no loss on Fernando Mendoza in Round 1, Pick 1; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick36
Rnd2
CJ Allen
CJ Allen at pick 36 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick67
Rnd3
Lee Hunter
Lee Hunter in No. 67 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The roster fit checks out.
Pick102
Rnd4
Genesis Smith
Nothing to complain about; Genesis Smith went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick117
Rnd4
Treydan Stukes
Circle this one: Treydan Stukes at the 117th pick is a fall that decides a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick134
Rnd4
Nadame Tucker
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Nadame Tucker well ahead of where he belonged. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick174
Rnd5
Aamil Wagner
A tidy bit of business in the Round 5 slot, where Aamil Wagner graded well above the range. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick180
Rnd6
Aaron Anderson
Aaron Anderson in pick No. 180 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick183
Rnd6
Nate Boerkircher
Steal is underselling it; Nate Boerkircher at slot 183 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick219
Rnd7
Max Bredeson
Max Bredeson at the 219th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A need, and now a little less of one.
