Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Raiders left with their quarterback, and a B- to match. There is reaching, and then there is Solomon Tuliaupupu at pick 219. The Raiders jumped the board by 94 and dared it to prove them wrong. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
Dante Moore gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. It is not that Kilgore is a bad player; it is that the Raiders had louder needs to answer first.
The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Cooper Jr. pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Dante Moore
In the 4th pick they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick35
Rnd2
Sonny Styles
By-the-book stuff, Sonny Styles at pick 35 squarely in line with his ranking. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick66
Rnd3
Brian Parker II
They left a pile of value on the table to take Brian Parker II this early at No. 66. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick104
Rnd4
Earl Little Jr.
Earl Little Jr. in Round 4, Pick 4 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick111
Rnd4
Omar Cooper Jr.
A slide stopped in slot 111, with Omar Cooper Jr. worth more than the price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick134
Rnd4
Jalon Kilgore
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the Round 4 slot on Jalon Kilgore with cornerback, running back and other spots unsolved.
Pick173
Rnd5
Jacob Rodriguez
The board had Jacob Rodriguez higher than slot 173, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick181
Rnd6
Aamil Wagner
No edge and no loss on Aamil Wagner in the Round 6 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick185
Rnd6
Duce Robinson
Good price on Duce Robinson in pick No. 185, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick219
Rnd7
Solomon Tuliaupupu
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Solomon Tuliaupupu well ahead of where he belonged. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
