Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Raiders left with their quarterback, and a B- to match.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Raiders spent their marquee pick on Fernando Mendoza, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.

The cost of the Young reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is Barham.

Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick5 Rnd1 Fernando Mendoza
In pick No. 5 they get their guy under center for the next decade, though they paid up to get him.
Pick36 Rnd2 Jake Slaughter
A straight-up fair deal on Jake Slaughter at Round 2, Pick 4, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick67 Rnd3 Zion Young
Zion Young at pick 67 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick105 Rnd4 Omar Cooper Jr.
Nice patience on Omar Cooper Jr., who had no business lasting to the Round 4 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick112 Rnd4 Earl Little Jr.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Earl Little Jr. in No. 112. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick134 Rnd4 Jaishawn Barham
They read the board right and Jaishawn Barham was the payoff at the 134th pick. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick173 Rnd5 Davison Igbinosun
Davison Igbinosun in the 173rd overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick183 Rnd6 Aamil Wagner
Nothing to complain about; Aamil Wagner went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick185 Rnd6 Zane Durant
By-the-book stuff, Zane Durant at the 185th pick squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick220 Rnd7 DJ Harvey
No edge and no loss on DJ Harvey in the 220th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
