Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall A-
ValueB+ NeedB TradesA FutureA
Grand theft in the 68th overall pick: the Commanders steal Thieneman and grade out a A-.

Somebody in slot 68 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Commanders sat still while Dillon Thieneman, the No. 50 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. The sum of the weekend is a deserved A-.

They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Reaching for Benny left real value on the table behind him.

In the end it comes back to Arvell Reese, and a haul good enough to build on right away.

Pick Analysis
Pick24 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In the 24th pick they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker, and a steal at that. Need was not the driver here.
Pick55 Rnd2 Jake Slaughter
A slide stopped in the 55th overall pick, with Jake Slaughter worth more than the price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick68 Rnd3 Dillon Thieneman
Taking Dillon Thieneman in No. 68 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick88 Rnd3 Nyck Harbor
Nyck Harbor at pick No. 88 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick147 Rnd5 Blake Miller
Value with a capital V on Blake Miller in Round 5, Pick 7, a genuine coup. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick186 Rnd6 Oscar Delp
They took Oscar Delp at par in pick 186, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick191 Rnd6 Rayshaun Benny
They jumped the gun on Rayshaun Benny, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick220 Rnd7 DJ Harvey
Nothing to complain about; DJ Harvey went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
