Bigge DRAFTING FOR THETitans
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Titans
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Titans. The Titans went off the board in a big way for Jamal Haynes, 71 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. It is not that Ponds is a bad player; it is that the Titans had louder needs to answer first. The Rutledge steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
The back end got a real overhaul.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
No edge and no loss on Caleb Downs in Round 1, Pick 4; it is a wash and a sensible one. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick35
Rnd2
Sonny Styles
No drama and no debate, Sonny Styles went about where he belonged in pick 35. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick66
Rnd3
Malik Muhammad
They paid a round early for Malik Muhammad in pick No. 66, more than the board wanted. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick101
Rnd4
D'Angelo Ponds
They zigged when the board said zag, taking D'Angelo Ponds at cornerback with edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots open.
Pick140
Rnd5
Keylan Rutledge
Keylan Rutledge at slot 140 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick142
Rnd5
Jamal Haynes
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jamal Haynes well ahead of where he belonged. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick182
Rnd6
Barion Brown
Barion Brown in Round 6, Pick 3 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick238
Rnd7
Haynes King
They took Haynes King at par in the Round 7 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
