The 49ers did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-.

Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The 49ers spent the 209th pick on Jordan Johnson, a name the board had a full 84 spots lower. No fireworks, but a solid B-.

Still falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back. Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.

Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Tyler Guyton
In Round 1, Pick 31 they get an anchor for the offensive line, though they paid up to get him. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick63 Rnd2 Mike Sainristil
They liked Mike Sainristil enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 63. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick94 Rnd3 Adisa Isaac
Circle this one: Adisa Isaac at pick No. 94 is a fall that decides a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick98 Rnd3 Payton Wilson
A linebacker of that caliber at pick 98 is the definition of value, full stop. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick132 Rnd4 Javion Cohen
Javion Cohen at the 132nd overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick176 Rnd6 Javon Baker
Javon Baker in slot 176 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick209 Rnd6 Jordan Johnson
They reached into another round for Jordan Johnson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick214 Rnd6 Tyrone Tracy Jr.
A tidy bit of business in slot 214, where Tyrone Tracy Jr. graded well above the range. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick215 Rnd6 Jaylan Ford
Jaylan Ford at the 215th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick249 Rnd7 Tarheeb Still
The board fumbled Tarheeb Still all the way to pick No. 249, and they scooped it up. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
