The real work happened on the phones. The Bears fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with.

Nourzad has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Taylor-Demerson.

They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it. The veteran additions, Bijan Robinson chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
