Draft Grade — Lions
Overall B
ValueB NeedA- TradesB- FutureB-
The Lions robbed the room for Liufau. Final grade: B.

You could see the war room lean forward. Marist Liufau at No. 208 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. More right than wrong, and a B to match.

Leaving safety unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Rosengarten reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.

Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Quinyon Mitchell
In pick No. 30 they get a ballhawk on the outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick62 Rnd2 Brandon Dorlus
Brandon Dorlus at the 62nd overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick73 Rnd3 Johnny Wilson
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Johnny Wilson. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick93 Rnd3 Sedrick Van Pran
A clean, defensible pick in Round 3, Pick 30 with a little surplus value in Sedrick Van Pran. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick167 Rnd5 Roger Rosengarten
They paid a round early for Roger Rosengarten in slot 167, more than the board wanted. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick208 Rnd6 Marist Liufau
Taking Marist Liufau in the Round 6 slot is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick251 Rnd7 Zion Logue
Zion Logue at pick 251 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It adds depth where they could use a little.
