Larceny in the 62nd pick lands the Lions a B, DeJean and all. When a board-topper like Cooper DeJean slides to pick 62, you do not overthink it, and the Lions did not.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The cost of the Rosengarten reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Job largely done: cornerback settled and 4 of 9 of the wish list covered. The back end got a real overhaul.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Quinyon Mitchell
In the 30th pick they get a sticky cover corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick62
Rnd2
Cooper DeJean
Cooper DeJean in Round 2, Pick 30 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick73
Rnd3
T'Vondre Sweat
The board had T'Vondre Sweat higher than the 73rd overall pick, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick93
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe in No. 93 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick167
Rnd5
Roger Rosengarten
Roger Rosengarten in pick 167 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick208
Rnd6
Jalen Green
By-the-book stuff, Jalen Green at pick No. 208 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick251
Rnd7
Eric Gentry
No edge and no loss on Eric Gentry in the Round 7 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
