Best value of the weekend goes to the Steelers for Lew: B-.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Steelers were there to profit. Connor Lew, the No. 65 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick No. 85. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.

That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Every board in the league had Zvada lower, and that gap is the story. On the needs board they went 6 of 9, with quarterback the one that mattered most.

Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Makai Lemon
In No. 21 they get a difference-maker at receiver. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick53 Rnd2 Sonny Styles
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Sonny Styles at pick No. 53 is the proof. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick76 Rnd3 Ja'Kobi Lane
The board had Ja'Kobi Lane higher than Round 3, Pick 12, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick85 Rnd3 Connor Lew
Somehow Connor Lew was still sitting there in the Round 3 slot, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick99 Rnd3 Jacob Rodriguez
Jacob Rodriguez in the 99th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. The roster fit checks out.
Pick121 Rnd4 Trinidad Chambliss
A clean, defensible pick in the 121st overall pick with a little surplus value in Trinidad Chambliss. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick135 Rnd4 Hezekiah Masses
They let Hezekiah Masses come to them and pounced at pick 135. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick159 Rnd5 Nadame Tucker
Nadame Tucker in slot 159 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick213 Rnd6 Fernando Carmona
A straight-up fair deal on Fernando Carmona at Round 6, Pick 34, value and slot in agreement. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick214 Rnd6 Isaac Smith
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Isaac Smith. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick224 Rnd7 Dominic Zvada
Dominic Zvada at No. 224 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick237 Rnd7 Joey Aguilar
Nice patience on Joey Aguilar, who had no business lasting to the 237th pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
