Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
A passer of the future in Mendoza, and a B-, for the Raiders. The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Raiders spent their marquee pick on Fernando Mendoza, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
They will need Black to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. On value alone, Everette makes the weekend a net positive. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
In the 1st overall pick they get the arm they will build around at fair value.
Pick36
Rnd2
Denzel Boston
Denzel Boston at the Round 2 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick67
Rnd3
Lee Hunter
They will replay Lee Hunter at No. 67 for years; that is how good the value is. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick102
Rnd4
Daylen Everette
Daylen Everette in Round 4, Pick 2 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick117
Rnd4
Genesis Smith
Genesis Smith slipping to the 117th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick134
Rnd4
Dametrious Crownover
They paid a round early for Dametrious Crownover in pick 134, more than the board wanted. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick175
Rnd5
Kaelon Black
Kaelon Black at pick No. 175 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick185
Rnd6
Riley Nowakowski
This one needs a full-page explanation: Riley Nowakowski in slot 185, miles early. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick208
Rnd6
Eli Heidenreich
A wild overpay on Eli Heidenreich in No. 208, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick219
Rnd7
Jimmy Rolder
A conviction pick on Jimmy Rolder at Round 7, Pick 3 that the board grades a round light. A minor itch, scratched.
