RF4916 DRAFTING FOR THERavens
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Ravens
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Ravens, and a B- to prove it. There is a lot to like until you notice interior defensive lineman is still a hole. The Ravens never got to the one that mattered most.
The McCormick pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They banked enough surplus on Dorlus to cover a lot of smaller sins.
Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Adonai Mitchell
In Round 1, Pick 30 they get a difference-maker at receiver. A real need, handled.
Pick62
Rnd2
Kingsley Suamataia
A straight-up fair deal on Kingsley Suamataia at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick93
Rnd3
Brandon Dorlus
Brandon Dorlus is a better player than the 93rd pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
Pick113
Rnd4
Cam Hart
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Cam Hart in No. 113. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick130
Rnd4
Mason McCormick
They went early on Mason McCormick in pick No. 130, and the value did not follow. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick165
Rnd5
Tykee Smith
A clean, defensible pick in pick 165 with a little surplus value in Tykee Smith. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick218
Rnd6
Trevin Wallace
A reach for Trevin Wallace in the 218th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick228
Rnd7
Frank Gore Jr.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Frank Gore Jr.. The roster fit checks out.
Pick250
Rnd7
Solomon Byrd
No drama and no debate, Solomon Byrd went about where he belonged in pick 250. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
