Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Mendoza is the Raiders' new face under center. Grade: B-.

It is the swing that defines the weekend: Solomon Tuliaupupu in the 184th pick, a good 129 spots before the room expected him. No fireworks, but a solid B-.

So much rides on Fernando Mendoza that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. The Slaughter pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.

It is not that Rodriguez is a bad player; it is that the Raiders had louder needs to answer first. Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Fernando Mendoza
Fernando Mendoza in No. 2 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick33 Rnd2 Arvell Reese
Arvell Reese at pick 33 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick66 Rnd3 Jake Slaughter
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Jake Slaughter in slot 66, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick101 Rnd4 Omar Cooper Jr.
Omar Cooper Jr. in the 101st overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick115 Rnd4 D'Angelo Ponds
A straight-up fair deal on D'Angelo Ponds at pick No. 115, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick136 Rnd4 Jacob Rodriguez
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Jacob Rodriguez at linebacker with running back and tight end open.
Pick175 Rnd5 DJ Campbell
They jumped the gun on DJ Campbell, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick182 Rnd6 Bud Clark
A real head-scratcher, Bud Clark in slot 182 is miles ahead of his ranking. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick184 Rnd6 Solomon Tuliaupupu
A wild overpay on Solomon Tuliaupupu in No. 184, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick218 Rnd7 Jamari Lyons
They reached into another round for Jamari Lyons, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A need, and now a little less of one.
