Draft Grade — Buccaneers

The Buccaneers let Mondon Jr. fall and pounced. Final grade: C+. The board owed the Buccaneers one, and it paid up: Smael Mondon Jr., the No. 110 name on the board, sitting there at the Round 5 slot like a gift left on the doorstep. Fine in stretches, shaky in others: a C+.
A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. The cost of the Hairston reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The Jaire Alexander pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
Hit on Landon Jackson and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick Analysis
Pick19
Rnd1
Landon Jackson
In pick No. 19 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick58
Rnd2
Maxwell Hairston
This one needs a full-page explanation: Maxwell Hairston in slot 58, miles early. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick84
Rnd3
Isaiah Bond
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Isaiah Bond in No. 84, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick123
Rnd4
Emery Jones Jr.
No edge and no loss on Emery Jones Jr. in the Round 4 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick158
Rnd5
Smael Mondon Jr.
Somehow Smael Mondon Jr. was still sitting there in pick 158, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick237
Rnd7
Clay Webb
Clay Webb in the 237th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
