Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall D-
ValueC NeedA- TradesF FutureB-
A passer of the future in Mendoza, and a D-, for the Vikings.

Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Vikings, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. Put together, it is a D-.

Whatever Fernando Mendoza becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.

Reaching for Mendoza left real value on the table behind him. They banked enough surplus on Sadiq to cover a lot of smaller sins.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Fernando Mendoza
In the 1st overall pick they get a franchise quarterback, reach and all. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick45 Rnd2 Kenyon Sadiq
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Kenyon Sadiq in pick 45, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick79 Rnd3 Michael Taaffe
Michael Taaffe slipping to the Round 3 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick97 Rnd3 Keith Abney II
Keith Abney II is a better player than Round 3, Pick 33 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick169 Rnd5 Max Iheanachor
Max Iheanachor in the 169th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick210 Rnd6 Cam Calhoun
No edge and no loss on Cam Calhoun in slot 210; it is a wash and a sensible one. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick228 Rnd7 Bryce Foster
They jumped the gun on Bryce Foster, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
