Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesB+ FutureB-
The Texans checked most of the boxes and earned a B.

Somehow the biggest item on the list survived the weekend. The Texans never addressed edge rusher, and it is the kind of gap that lingers.

Jones at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The cost of the Sweat reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Adonai Mitchell
In the 23rd overall pick they get a matchup problem out wide, even if it was a touch early. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick47 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
They paid a round early for T'Vondre Sweat in pick No. 47, more than the board wanted. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick75 Rnd3 Blake Corum
Blake Corum at pick 75 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick116 Rnd4 DJ James
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on DJ James. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick128 Rnd4 James Williams
By-the-book stuff, James Williams at No. 128 squarely in line with his ranking. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick224 Rnd7 Christian Jones
They let Christian Jones come to them and pounced at the Round 7 slot. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick245 Rnd7 Steele Chambers
Steele Chambers at Round 7, Pick 25 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick250 Rnd7 Myles Jones
Nice patience on Myles Jones, who had no business lasting to the 250th pick. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
