Draft Grade — Jaguars

Larceny in the Round 5 slot lands the Jaguars a B-, Melton and all.

The Jaguars spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Max Melton, the No. 119 name on the board, in the 155th pick. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

Every board in the league had Nugent lower, and that gap is the story. They punted on linebacker, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 9 of the wish list covered.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick17 Rnd1 Jared Verse
In pick No. 17 they get a disruptor off the edge at fair value.
Pick48 Rnd2 Brian Thomas Jr.
Brian Thomas Jr. slid further than he should have, and the 48th overall pick is lovely value for the wide receiver. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick79 Rnd3 Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe at the Round 3 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick96 Rnd3 Michael Hall Jr.
By-the-book stuff, Michael Hall Jr. at the 96th pick squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick114 Rnd4 Leonard Taylor III
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Leonard Taylor III. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick116 Rnd4 Drake Nugent
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Drake Nugent well ahead of where he belonged. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick155 Rnd5 Max Melton
They will replay Max Melton at Round 5, Pick 19 for years; that is how good the value is. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick195 Rnd6 J. Michael Sturdivant
J. Michael Sturdivant in slot 195 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick211 Rnd6 Jonah Monheim
A straight-up fair deal on Jonah Monheim at the Round 6 slot, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick237 Rnd7 Jalen Green
Jalen Green in Round 7, Pick 17 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The roster fit checks out.
