Draft Grade — Jets
Overall B
ValueB- NeedA- TradesA+ FutureD
Mendoza is the plan now, and the Jets grade out a B.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Jets spent the Round 6 slot on Princewill Umanmielen, a name most had 67 spots down the list.

Fernando Mendoza gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.

That Cooper Jr. pick is the receipt they will wave around later. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Fernando Mendoza
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Fernando Mendoza. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick16 Rnd1 Mansoor Delane
Nothing to complain about; Mansoor Delane went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick33 Rnd2 Caleb Banks
A tidy little value on Caleb Banks in slot 33, a step better than break-even. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick44 Rnd2 Anthony Hill Jr.
They let Anthony Hill Jr. come to them and pounced at No. 44. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick103 Rnd4 Omar Cooper Jr.
They will replay Omar Cooper Jr. at pick 103 for years; that is how good the value is. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick175 Rnd5 Gunner Stockton
Gunner Stockton in the 175th pick is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick178 Rnd5 Patrick Payton
This one needs a full-page explanation: Patrick Payton in No. 178, miles early. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick198 Rnd6 Xavier Nwankpa
A straight-up fair deal on Xavier Nwankpa at the Round 6 slot, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick205 Rnd6 Princewill Umanmielen
A big swing on Princewill Umanmielen at the 205th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick212 Rnd6 Kalil Alexander
A real head-scratcher, Kalil Alexander in slot 212 is miles ahead of his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick218 Rnd7 Raylen Wilson
They paid a round early for Raylen Wilson in pick No. 218, more than the board wanted. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick223 Rnd7 Makhi Hughes
Makhi Hughes in Round 7, Pick 7 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The roster fit checks out.
