Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall D-
ValueC+ NeedB- TradesF FutureB-
The Steelers got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D-.

Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Bub Means at slot 178 is 67 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. Put together, it is a D-.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. The Steelers indulged a want in Puni while a need in interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots stayed open.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, interior defensive lineman very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Jackson Powers-Johnson
In the 20th overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line, even if it was a touch early.
Pick51 Rnd2 Roman Wilson
Roman Wilson in the 51st pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick84 Rnd3 Kris Abrams-Draine
Kris Abrams-Draine at the Round 3 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick98 Rnd3 Dominick Puni
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Dominick Puni at offensive lineman with interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots open.
Pick119 Rnd4 Spencer Rattler
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Spencer Rattler. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick178 Rnd6 Bub Means
They reached a country mile for Bub Means at pick No. 178, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick195 Rnd6 Nathaniel Watson
A reach for Nathaniel Watson in pick No. 195; a little patience would have been rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
