Draft Grade — Seahawks
Overall
B+
ValueB
NeedB+
TradesA+
FutureB-
The Seahawks let Robinson fall into their laps, and walked away with a B+. Somebody in Round 3, Pick 17 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Seahawks sat still while Chop Robinson, the No. 35 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The Eguakun pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Adding Leighton Vander Esch by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Jared Verse
In the Round 1 slot they get a disruptor off the edge at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick54
Rnd2
Edgerrin Cooper
They paid sticker price for Edgerrin Cooper in slot 54, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick78
Rnd3
Christian Mahogany
No edge and no loss on Christian Mahogany in Round 3, Pick 14; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick81
Rnd3
Chop Robinson
A edge rusher of that caliber at No. 81 is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick87
Rnd3
McKinnley Jackson
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on McKinnley Jackson. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick118
Rnd4
Jaden Hicks
Value with a capital V on Jaden Hicks in the 118th overall pick, a genuine coup. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick137
Rnd5
Jarrian Jones
A tidy bit of business in pick 137, where Jarrian Jones graded well above the range. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick154
Rnd5
Theo Johnson
Theo Johnson at pick No. 154 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the tight end. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick174
Rnd5
Roger Rosengarten
They took Roger Rosengarten at par in the 174th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick194
Rnd6
Kingsley Eguakun
This one needs a full-page explanation: Kingsley Eguakun in pick No. 194, miles early. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick236
Rnd7
Blake Watson
Blake Watson in the Round 7 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The roster fit checks out.
