Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall C
ValueC+ NeedB- TradesD FutureC+
The Steelers did enough to get by: C.

When the story of this class is written, it opens with Evan Anderson at slot 240, a reach of 55 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. For now it grades a C, with the swing picks left to settle the rest.

The Frazier pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at tight end. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.

They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend.

So much rides on Tyler Guyton that the real verdict is a season or two away.

Pick Analysis
Pick32 Rnd1 Tyler Guyton
In pick No. 32 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. More want than need.
Pick34 Rnd2 Zach Frazier
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went offensive lineman with Zach Frazier while clear needs at tight end sat open.
Pick64 Rnd2 Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at the 64th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick84 Rnd3 Dadrion Taylor-Demerson
Dadrion Taylor-Demerson at pick 84 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick87 Rnd3 Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson at the 87th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick118 Rnd4 Johnny Wilson
They went early on Johnny Wilson in Round 4, Pick 18, and the value did not follow. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick119 Rnd4 Mohamed Kamara
The board had cheaper options than Mohamed Kamara at No. 119, and it noticed. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick124 Rnd4 Justin Eboigbe
They reached a country mile for Justin Eboigbe at pick 124, and the board is aghast. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick158 Rnd5 Jarrian Jones
Value with a capital V on Jarrian Jones in pick No. 158, a genuine coup. The roster fit checks out.
Pick173 Rnd5 Joe Milton III
A wild overpay on Joe Milton III in the Round 5 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick194 Rnd6 Cornelius Johnson
Cornelius Johnson in Round 6, Pick 19 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick200 Rnd6 Trevin Wallace
Trevin Wallace at the 200th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick220 Rnd6 Frank Gore Jr.
No edge and no loss on Frank Gore Jr. in slot 220; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick240 Rnd7 Evan Anderson
Evan Anderson in the 240th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick246 Rnd7 De'Corian Clark
They reached into another round for De'Corian Clark, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
