Draft Grade — Seahawks
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB- TradesB+ FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B for the Seahawks.

The Seahawks clearly saw something nobody else did in Jackson Hawes, taking him 42 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.

They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Getting Vinson where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Kenneth Grant
In pick No. 18 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher. A real need, handled.
Pick51 Rnd2 Xavier Watts
Xavier Watts at slot 51 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick52 Rnd2 Demetrius Knight Jr.
They paid sticker price for Demetrius Knight Jr. in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick85 Rnd3 Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson at the 85th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick92 Rnd3 Elijah Arroyo
The board fumbled Elijah Arroyo all the way to No. 92, and they scooped it up. It fills a real need, too.
Pick122 Rnd4 Hollin Pierce
Value with a capital V on Hollin Pierce in Round 4, Pick 20, a genuine coup. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick137 Rnd4 Mello Dotson
Good price on Mello Dotson in Round 4, Pick 35, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick172 Rnd5 Cobee Bryant
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cobee Bryant. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick175 Rnd5 JJ Pegues
A straight-up fair deal on JJ Pegues at No. 175, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick197 Rnd6 KeAndre Lambert-Smith
A quiet steal in the Round 6 slot: KeAndre Lambert-Smith for less than the market said. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick208 Rnd6 Jackson Hawes
Jackson Hawes at the 208th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick223 Rnd7 CJ West
CJ West is a better player than pick No. 223 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
Pick234 Rnd7 Carson Vinson
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 234th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
