Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall C
ValueC+ NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Steelers lost the trade table, and the C tells the story.

You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Steelers did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.

Every board in the league had Travis lower, and that gap is the story. Spending an early pick on offensive lineman with tight end open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. Getting Dixon where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

If Terrion Arnold and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 Terrion Arnold
In pick No. 22 they get a ballhawk on the outside. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick39 Rnd2 Zach Frazier
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Zach Frazier. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick84 Rnd3 Kris Abrams-Draine
By-the-book stuff, Kris Abrams-Draine at the 84th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick98 Rnd3 Javon Baker
Javon Baker in the 98th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick119 Rnd4 Tyler Davis
No edge and no loss on Tyler Davis in Round 4, Pick 19; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick120 Rnd4 Christian Jones
A curious use of No. 120. Tight end needed the pick; an offensive lineman in Christian Jones did not.
Pick121 Rnd4 Justin Eboigbe
They reached into another round for Justin Eboigbe, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick145 Rnd5 Jordan Travis
Jordan Travis at slot 145 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick153 Rnd5 Tykee Smith
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tykee Smith. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick195 Rnd6 Ty'Ron Hopper
A tidy bit of business in the 195th overall pick, where Ty'Ron Hopper graded well above the range. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick207 Rnd6 Johnny Dixon
Johnny Dixon at the Round 6 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick208 Rnd6 Frank Gore Jr.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Frank Gore Jr. this early at Round 6, Pick 33. The roster fit checks out.
