Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureB-
Edwards should have been long gone. The Panthers pounced, and earned a B+.

The Panthers spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Donovan Edwards, the No. 190 name on the board, in the Round 7 slot.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

Hairston has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Adding Azeez Al-Shaair by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Luther Burden III
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Luther Burden III at the Round 1 slot is the proof. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick57 Rnd2 Aireontae Ersery
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Aireontae Ersery at the 57th overall pick. The roster fit checks out.
Pick58 Rnd2 Maxwell Hairston
They liked Maxwell Hairston enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 58. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick74 Rnd3 Elijah Arroyo
Elijah Arroyo at pick No. 74 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick111 Rnd4 Sebastian Castro
Circle this one: Sebastian Castro at Round 4, Pick 9 is a fall that decides a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick114 Rnd4 Jordan Phillips
Jordan Phillips at No. 114 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick140 Rnd5 Andres Borregales
Andres Borregales at slot 140 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick146 Rnd5 Tory Horton
Tory Horton at the 146th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick163 Rnd5 Jack Kiser
Jack Kiser in pick No. 163 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick230 Rnd7 Donovan Edwards
They will replay Donovan Edwards at the 230th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
