Draft Grade — Eagles
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesC+ FutureB
The Eagles let Sampson fall into their laps, and walked away with a B.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Eagles were there to profit. Dylan Sampson, the No. 65 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 85th overall pick. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. The cost of the Higgins reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick51 Rnd2 T.J. Sanders
T.J. Sanders in the 51st pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick64 Rnd2 Harold Fannin Jr.
Harold Fannin Jr. at No. 64 is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick85 Rnd3 Dylan Sampson
Taking Dylan Sampson in slot 85 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick97 Rnd3 Malachi Moore
Nothing to complain about; Malachi Moore went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick129 Rnd4 Emery Jones Jr.
A straight-up fair deal on Emery Jones Jr. at the Round 4 slot, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick166 Rnd5 Dorian Strong
Fair-plus on Dorian Strong, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick169 Rnd5 Jay Higgins
Jay Higgins in Round 5, Pick 30 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick193 Rnd6 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Steal is underselling it; Dont'e Thornton Jr. at the 193rd overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
