You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Bills did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. The math is unkind, and the D follows.

They punted on linebacker, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They are betting Smith proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Getting Davis where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

Interior defensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
