Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
B+
ValueB+
NeedB
TradesA+
FutureB-
The Texans fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B+. The Texans treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending the Round 7 slot on Riley Mahlman a full 51 spots early. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. On value alone, Price makes the weekend a net positive. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The Garett Bolles deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In pick 28 they get the heartbeat of the defense at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
Pick38
Rnd2
Emmanuel Pregnon
Emmanuel Pregnon in the 38th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick59
Rnd2
Caleb Banks
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Caleb Banks at slot 59. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick69
Rnd3
Jonah Coleman
Jonah Coleman at the Round 3 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick106
Rnd4
Jadarian Price
Steal is underselling it; Jadarian Price at No. 106 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick128
Rnd4
Nate Boerkircher
They reached into another round for Nate Boerkircher, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick243
Rnd7
Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III at No. 243 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick244
Rnd7
Riley Mahlman
Riley Mahlman in pick 244 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
